3P’s Baseball Pitching Experts: Dr. Glenn Fleisig
Glenn Fleisig is the research director of the prestigious American Sports Medicine Institute (ASMI) in Birmingham Alabama. Dr. Fleisig leads the team at ASMI that has conducted biomechanical pitching analyses on some of today’s most successful MLB pitchers. For two decades, ASMI has been studying the biomechanics of baseball pitching. The initial focus of these studies was to understand injury mechanisms and provide knowledge to the medical community for improving pitching injury treatment. During the last few years, their purpose has been broadened to include injury prevention. More than 2,000 baseball pitchers from all levels have been tested at ASMI. The wealth of data has led to numerous scientific publications for physicians and others.
As one of the foremost authorities on pitching biomechanics, Dr. Fleisig has authored over 150 publications on the subject of pitching, preventing pitching injuries, overhand throwing implications of injuries, conditioning the shoulder and arm for pitching, how biomechanics can reduce pitching injuries, motion analysis and pitching mechanics.
Dr. Fleisig holds many appointments including Adjunct Professor, Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Alabama at Birmingham; Affiliate Faculty Member in Sports Medicine, University of Alabama; Committee Member, USA Baseball Medical & Safety Committee and Pitching Safety Consultant, Little League Baseball & Softball
Dr. Fleisig is a member of many prestigious organizations including the American College of Sports Medicine, American Society of Biomechanics, American Sports Medicine Fellowship Society, International Society of Biomechanics, International Society of Biomechanics in Sports, International Sports Engineering Association, the MIT Educational Council, the Editorial Review Board for The American Journal of Orthopedics and Sports Biomechanics.
